Maths. Let’s be honest – I’ve met a lot of students over the last 20 years, from children to teenagers and adults, and maths doesn’t get along with everyone. But the truth is, of all the things we learn in school, maths can really help us in our everyday lives, which is why knowing the fundamentals is so important whether we like it or not.

Here’s the trick – you don’t have to fear maths, and at South London Maths Tutors, we can prove it.

When I was in secondary school, I was predicted a “C” in my GCSE’s, and my parents were told that the only way I could get a “B” was if I worked night and day, and even then there was a slim chance. I knew I could do better, but it was super defeating to hear those words. They made me feel terrible. I have never forgotten that feeling, but it motivated me to figure out what kind of learning method would help me conquer maths.

With hard work, motivation, determination, and a new way of thinking about maths, I was able to crush everyone’s expectations and achieved an “A”. Not only that, but I grew my knowledge with A-levels and earned a degree in Mathematics and Statistics with Finance. Suddenly, everything clicked. I sought help from a tutor with my A-levels that gave me all the support my college couldn’t offer, and I reached potential I never even knew I had.

That was empowering – and I’m ready to pass it on.

South London Maths Tutors can put together a tailored learning program for you no matter what age you are to help you understand and master the fundamentals and beyond. I have watched so many students succeed, and so many adults succeed, that I believe you can set your academic goals incredibly high and meet them every single time. Maths is just numbers. How you look at them is the key.

As a student and an adult, I always loved running – especially sprints. My event of choice was the 100-meters. When I trained, I pushed myself early, and slowly built up my pace and regiment to meet the time I wanted to beat. That way, just like academics in maths, something as physical and engaging as running as fast as you can was a game of mind over matter.

That is the mantra I wish to give all of my students at South London Maths Tutors – You are great and you can do it. Self-belief and motivation can give you the energy and strength to succeed in anything – even maths. It’s that easy.

Don’t let people get you down, and definitely don’t let their opinions make you doubt yourself. Let your haters become your motivators. You are the one who can help you achieve what you want. But just like the tutor that helped me in college, and all the training programs that helped me run as fast as I could – getting a helping hand that can guide you is a part of the equation. That’s why South London Maths Tutors is a success – and one that can help you succeed.
